Serving a Growing Community
Every new development in Reno — from small remodels to major commercial builds — passes through the City’s Development Department. This City Hall location is one of the offices where developers, designers, and property owners meet with code reviewers, permit specialists, and administrative staff to move ideas from paper to reality. The building, a converted high-rise originally built as a bank headquarters, brings its own set of challenges for renovation work.
Creative Solutions for a Unique Jobsite
The vertical layout limited traditional freight access to the workspace. To keep the project on schedule, the team built scaffolding in the alley alongside City Hall, allowing crane operators to lift materials to a temporary platform outside the work area. From there, they were brought directly inside through a window, keeping public areas open and crews supplied.
An Open and Welcoming Space
The refreshed office greets visitors with a bright reception area anchored by two large public-service counters. A central plan table invites collaborative reviews, and multiple conference rooms are equipped for in-person and virtual meetings. Natural light fills perimeter offices, where reconfigurable partitions allow the layout to adapt over time.
Built for Efficiency and Connection
Warm wood-wrapped columns, updated finishes, and new furnishings reflect the professionalism and accessibility of the Department’s staff. Every detail supports improved workflow, stronger collaboration, and a better experience for the public. The result is a functional, flexible workplace that matches the important role the Development Department plays in shaping Reno’s built environment.
