Expanding Emergency Response in a Growing Region
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is expanding emergency services with the construction of Fire Station 35, a new facility located off Interstate 80 and Waltham Way. Built to support the growing eastern communities of Washoe County, the station will enhance response capabilities across the I-80 corridor and beyond, helping protect residents, travelers, and future development areas within the Fire District.
Strategic Coverage for Communities and Corridors
Fire Station 35 will reduce response times from Vista to Wadsworth and ease the load on Station 37 and neighboring agencies including Sparks Fire and Storey County Fire. The station will also play an important role in supporting regional development along USA Parkway and delivering faster mutual aid to Fernley and Wadsworth.
A Partnership That Supports Public Safety
The new facility was made possible through a major contribution from Apple, which provided land and construction funding. Apple’s investment complements its long-standing operations in the region, including a data center and a satellite ground station that supports Emergency SOS via satellite technology.
Collaboration to Deliver the Right Facility
Plenium Builders, serving as the Construction Manager at Risk, completed preconstruction efforts on schedule and on budget, collaborating closely with H+K Architects, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, and project stakeholders to align the design and scope with the district’s priorities. This early partnership approach helped maintain budget goals while preserving the operational needs of the station.
A Station Designed for Today and Tomorrow
The 13,000-square-foot facility is designed for round-the-clock staffing, with accommodations for four to eight firefighters per shift. It includes three apparatus bays, a Type 1 Fire Engine, a Type 3 Brush Engine, and a water tender. Space has been planned for future specialty vehicles and a paramedic ambulance as the region’s needs grow.
Building for the Future of Public Safety
Station 35 positions Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District to meet evolving demands along one of the region’s busiest transportation corridors. It also supports long-term public safety improvements aligned with the Nevada Department of Transportation’s I-80 widening and enhancement project. As construction moves forward, the project team remains committed to delivering a facility that will serve the community for decades to come.
