A Practical Pharmacy TI Supporting Better Access
Better access to prescriptions depends on the spaces that make daily pharmacy work easier, safer, and more efficient. In Reno, a tenant improvement inside an operating support-services building created a dedicated mail-order pharmacy environment designed to help serve patients throughout the region.
The project converted existing second-floor space above Renown’s print shop into a functional healthcare support area with pharmacy operations, offices, an employee lounge, restroom, storage, casework, glazing, updated MEP systems, ceilings, lighting, and finishes. The work required selective demolition, framing, casework, glazing, and finish installation within an active building where nearby operations continued throughout construction.
Building Within an Operating Facility
Careful coordination guided the work from start to finish. Access, deliveries, noise, dust control, and trade sequencing all needed to respect the occupied setting while keeping the tenant improvement moving forward. That balance helped maintain a productive jobsite without losing sight of the client’s day-to-day operational needs.
OneStudio D+A developed a design that supported both the technical requirements of the pharmacy and a clean, professional workplace for staff. PB worked with the design team and trade partners to coordinate the buildout, including new systems, lighting, casework, ceilings, and interior finishes.
Coordinating the Details
Specialized pharmacy automation equipment, installed by others, added coordination points for surrounding infrastructure, clearances, workflow, and finishes. The pharmacy includes a vial-filling robot capable of filling up to 80 prescriptions per hour, according to information shared by Renown during the opening celebration. Representatives also noted that the technology helps process prescriptions safely and efficiently, with accuracy reported at more than 99.9 percent.
The finished TI provides a bright, organized mail-order pharmacy space that supports staff workflow, prescription delivery, and improved medication access for patients across the region.
